Chalk pastels without a doubt (which inceidently can be used in conjunction with charcoal and compressed charcoals). Another really good tip is if you use white oil pastel on top of blue biro/ballpoint pen on brown parcel paper. They blend together quite nicely with interesting effects – give it a try.
